I am 100% sure I am NOT the only mom that has children collect various items/toys. See, when you go to yard/estate/thrift stores and you have young children, the kids learn quickly to pick up something *they* want. So, all too quickly you accumulate more than is really necessary. Especially those sales when people tell the kids to *take a toy, it's FREE*

Yesterday, I started to work on our ~~basement man cave toy room storage~~ ALL of those titles.
It was a long time coming, because mostly I have let my husband take over, his special spot with the couch, lazy boy, tv etc. However, 1/2 the area is dedicated to PLAY or TOYS for the kids. Well, it had been neglected, dust was building up on the toys, how does dust build up on toys? Well, I think it all starts with this new generation of gadgets. Wii, kindles/ipads/ x box, ps3. Those are becoming the new toys for our next generation.

And I tell you, as I was going through every toy bin, I could picture a birthday, or a yard/estate sale occasion (because I was looking for vintage treasures) when we had these toys come into our home. I saw all the Thomas the Trains that my 1st child had to have every time we went into a toy store or that his Grandpa would pick up for him. There were also all the Transformers my 1st child started to collect. Then came Cars 1. There was a pattern with all these toys, each one was played with, loved. Then with our 2nd child, he already had access to his big brothers collection, but he too started to collect Cars, etc. Now days he collects erasers, jumbo pencils anything round fuzzy/soft and pom-poms (don't ask me why, not sure) I must say, it is really an emotional thing to see all these toys once played with day after day, now just forgotten.

I had the intention yesterday to clean all the downstairs. And I did. But instead of taking the toys that were not longer played with and selling or donating (I do a lot of both). I decided to take the collections and store in vintage suitcases. I fit 3 under the Thomas the Train table. And under the Foosball table I mange to slip 2 large suitcase filled with Cars city play houses and various other larger pieces.

Also, I rearranged everything, everything emptied out, vacuumed, wiped down (dust free). And when all done, the kids came home, checked out what I had done. Sat in front of the toy bins and PLAYED with toys. This may sound ridiculous to many, but to me, this was awesome. It let me know they still were young enough to enjoy toys, they used their imagination. It meant a lot to me.

I hope I don't sound like my kids are spoiled, but I as the kids get older they change and start to like other things. When they start to date, I will probably start bawling the minute they leave in the car :/ Time just goes so fast, and the older I get the more I understand this..

Moral to the story: Clean toy area and rotate toys often so they think they are discovering something new, LOL! And maybe one day, the kids will appreciate mom stashing stuff like a squirrel and it will be a awesome surprise either withing the next week or 30 years from now.

Happy Julianuary!

Well, here I have sat at the computer for the past 3 days, not literally sat for 3 days, but you know, reading, starring aimlessly at sites, pretending I know how to link my android smartphone to my computer so I can ditch Comcast see here ----> http://www.howtogeek.com/102298/how-to-use-your-android-phone-as-a-modem-no-rooting-required-redux/. I want to geek, I love all the geek stuff, but usually A D H D takes over and I am off dreaming of another "What-if" idea.

I honestly have not found the momentum to jump into anything..yet... As with everyone else I have big goals for 2012, lol, however those goals might really be dreams, or possibly me just using my imagination, testing to see if it still works.

I had a wonderful 2 weeks off for the holidays. Family, food and some serious vegging out and being a couch potato. I loved it, and I was very fortunate to have this time with family and lots of goodies to eat.

Now, the kids are back in school, and I know that Valentines Day is quickly approaching. I am usually one of those last minute girls, but A HA, I was ahead of myself and sent a email out to the other Room Mom's to help get the gears rolling to plan. But, I know, I will wait till the week prior and put everything in motion.

Then, there is the business to selling online. This is honestly a tough area, as the World grows and social media and more and more sites popping up like Ebay and Etsy, there is more and more competition among millions of sellers. And you are damn lucky to sell and make money.

And something tells me I should do more crafts this year. However, just surfing Pinterest.com, might be enough for all the crafting dreams I may have. I can spend hours on that site, accomplish nothing but soaking up visual goodness and repinning and sharing with the world on what I thought was cool and have a feeling of being extremely crafty!

And then last but not least, I think of exercising <--- (the spelling on that word get's me every time). I think about it as I am eating smoked oysters and crackers, they look sickening, but taste oh so good, totally out of character for me :/ I do promise myself to walk the dogs more and yes, go on lots more hikes than last year.

Who knows what 2012 will bring. I hope it brings: more Joy than Sorrow, More people helping/volunteering/donating for people or animals, More jobs within our country, little more kindness and less hate/demeaning to others.

Homemade glitter pine cones Christmas ornaments 1st grade

Thought I would make a easy craft for the 1st grade Christmas party... Little did I know how much work they would be for ME. You think I would clue in soon ;o)

I have a variety of pine trees, so I was fortunate to collect a nice bunch

Sprayed with Krylon flat white spray paint. 1 can was enough to do all.

I started with tacky glue, waste of time. Got the glue gun out and glued a variety of holiday ribbons to the top of each one.

I needed 57 for all the students. But I like to make about 20 extra, so all the children have a choice, and don't have to take the "last one"

In class the children drizzle white glue on their pine cone, then shake glitter color of their choice.

I laminated their school pics, and put the year on the back. The tags are the avery hang tags, worked well.

A red ribbon tied their pictures on.

Then we wrapped each ornament in a cellophane bag with ribbon for the children to give to their parents.

Christmas around the World idea, book

So, I have tried to find something online that I could "print" for the 'Christmas Around the World Theme'. Looks like there are coloring books I can buy, however I am short on time in having them mailed.
Creating my own little book, images and stories are being scanned from "My Christmas Treasury" A little golden book 1976, compiled by Gale Wiersum, illustrated by Sylvia Emrich.
I have a book pretty banged up so, I had to tear the spine off and scan, hate tearing up books, but had too, and this one was tired and I need the stories for the class party...
I will take to school and have the pages printed on a hard card stock paper (that I am donating) then I will bind the books with spiral thing a ma jigs ;) We have sent a note out to parents asking them to send in their favorite candy or treat for the day of our party to go along with our theme.

It all started Saturday... I was offered a beautiful piece of furniture, it is an entertainment center, but I have turned it into bookcase-store special pieces-place for my printer. I have moved my desk out and this piece is behind me.

However, I am a pack rat by nature, and vintage hoarder of sorts. I truly have good intentions to "list" these items, but as of the 2 months I have been super busy with helping at the schools, a bit maddening, plus trying to list online and maintain the household.
Point is, in order to set up this lovely piece of furniture, I had to bring everything out that I had stashed into smaller bookcases and boxes, etc.

So, currently it is Wednesday * I think* and still, my front room looks like a shithole, to put it nicely. I am having to go through everything and decide if I should donate (already took a small load to thrift store). And everything needs to be cleaned, sold or used as a decoration.
I thought I was pretty creative putting the big Sears and Roebuck red wagon up on top of the entertainment center, still not sure how I did that, along with a small red table and my other nic - nacks. I should take a picture, however that would require finding the camera, and at this point I am completley clueless where it could be.

I also decided to re-arrange the dining table-area. Somehow, at some point the kids decided to take over the table, and make it their Lego workshop, clever critters. So in the midst of all my stuff everywhere, I decided to re-arrange all their stuff. But, I do say, it is starting to look pretty decent, slightly starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Carefully sorted through the Legos, not to be confused with Bionicals, there must be 1K pieces easily. Most of these legos have come from yard sales or gifts for birthdays, I am not one to run out and drop $50 on a set of legos...

Then came time for the colored pencils, crayons and markers - again, majority of those were scored from yard sales. Really, I don't think we need enough crayons or colored pencils to support a classroom. This past weekend, a friend was closing her parents business, and I was able to find some really neat containers, and I found a great way to display-store these art supplies. The rest were just donated to a art class for a Jr high-high school.

It is winding down, next I hope to tackle the book pile, I have a facination for books, especially the old ones or anything that looks child oriented - my kids love to read, so I feel this is good brain candy for them, however, some have got to go...somewhere... Everything is donated or recycled, never just tossed in the trash when it still has life in it. And this time of year I like to make a big donation pile to take to the homeless shelter.

Anyhow, had to crawl out of the hole, and hope to find camera to share how I put everything back together, someday it will be, positive thinking over here

I survived making Pet Pumpkin Rocks

So, I thought it would be a great, easy idea to make these Pet Pumpkin Rocks, that I watched on a video, and now I cannot find for the life of me!!

Anyways, I thought they would be easy to make. I didn't take several things into consideration.

1) I had to make close to 70 rocks.

2) Where would I find them?

3) Never thought spray paint would not work..

So, after looking at Walmart, Lowes and no luck what so ever (season) I tried Home Depot (river bed would be next), but Home Depot had them, Mexican Pebbles for $10 a big bag, and I about threw my back out carrying to the check out, and the nice cashier said "you could of got a cart", I had to just smile, no shit is what I was thinking..

So, I had thought all I needed to do was spray paint, after I rinsed them off of course.

I sprayed, and sprayed, and sprayed... Yuck, color was uneven, it bleed, and just was not what I was going for. So, I bought another can, same result. yuck.

And $7 wasted.

Next, I had a small container of Terra Cotta acrylic paint, I did one rock, and thought, that is what I needed to do. Hand paint all the rocks...OMH...

It took about 2 coats, each side...

Some I decided to apply a glitter coating I had by Making Memories, others I decided to spray a clear to make shiny, and the rest I left matte. I figured they all needed to be different and have a variety, as I later told the kids "we are all different and special".

I glued the stems on, one by one and most twice, I used Tacky Glue.

I had to prop up to let dry

I should of took a pic before it was filled, I was burned out (2 school parties)

They turned out pretty cute and it was a great filling to sit down with 6 kids at a time and tell them to create their special "Pet Pumpkin Rock". I let them pick, one at a time, and handed them a black sharpie. Pretty cute, and I am pretty happy I made it through the last week of October..

To list or not to list, that is the question.

I have a small stack of vintage patterns, and I keep tossing back and forth in my head to list or keep. I am not by any means a seamstress, nor do sewing and I get along at all.

But something about the graphic and of course being paper, because paper is my favorite to collect, is telling me not to sell them. I did see somewhere, someone framed them and the looked darling...

Till I decide I will share on here for now.

I had purchased this cd in Omaha, Nebraska. I had just moved there, 2nd time far away from home, 2nd time moving away with my boyfriend who was in college playing football.

Not sure if this was the best CD for a relationship, especially one that was struggling.

I did eventually leave him.

After being back in SLC for a month, I decided I had to go visit him.

Then one day I decided to put a boombox in my car with my favorite cd's and drove from SLC, Utah back to Omaha, Nebraska. By myself, rode trip. With a several cups of coffee and KOOL cigarettes.

I did show up at our old apartment, knocked, he said come in.

I did, there was a girl in the kitchen, didn't take him long, never did.

He saw me, tripped out, and said to come back in an hour, he had to have his guest leave.

Ah, way to much to say about that relationship. I guess we all need one of "those" relationships, so that later in life we can appreciate what comes into our lives and hopefully learn to never repeat those mistakes....

The past month seems like a Blur.

I had a goal set in my mind, when the kids are in school I would work really hard on listing and selling. Well, the first part of Back to school I was finding myself doing that. Also, I had told myself I would volunteer at school...

It all started I think with helping to organize a classroom, then I found myself putting my name in to be chosen to be a Room Mom (head parent in charge of parties and whatever teacher needs help with). I was chosen... Then I went to the other child's school (yes, the running around to two different schools has begun this year too, oh yes, joined a carpool, that is new to me). I went to see what the other school's PTA had in mind for the school year. Panic set in quickly when only 5 people showed up for the whole school jr. high- high school. The next meeting there were a few more, and we needed to help plan a large evening activity for the kids *gulp*... I can do this!!!

So I find myself helping as a room mom, proud to say I learned how to laminate and bind notebooks, and then I find myself helping plan Halloween parties for both kids...

The older one we will have scareoke - singing Halloween songs, fun photo booth, colored hair extensions, free food, fake tattoos, and lots of games.

Now, the days are blurring together, I am helping in class more and more and more and finding myself beyond exhausted at night. Why? Oh maybe because I have been home for 7 years, behind a computer on my own time schedule. And when I found out I was NEEDED, or at least in my brain I am needed, I kicked it into OVER ACHIEVER mode... I found out I could use my brain and share it with other ADULTS, I found that I finally had good suggestions and I had become well organized. I was finding my groove again, the groove of being busy and helping and planning. It felt great, minus the exhaustion.
All I can keep thinking of is the quote of sliding into the grave with a well, worn out body. "Keep pushing through" is what I keep telling myself.

And then the kids come home and it is time to start dinner, and to make sure homework is done and bath and bedtime... The emails I have been checking as of late have nothing to do with Ebay or Etsy to see if I sold anything. The emails are correspondence with other Mom's or teachers. I also managed to take it upon myself and run the school PTA faceebook, twitter page, and thought hey, why not a blog too. All currently up and running.

I found a great group of woman/moms to work with and communicate with, happy to say...

Not sure why I am typing this up in a blog, with the exception of my kids possibly reading one day and getting a chuckle. I guess I am thankful for the opportunity I have been given this year to help... And it is nice to know, when you have taken a break, the brain can prove it still can work well in different environments.

So excited, today is October 1st! I truly love this month, it is a wonderful time to work on the house, and to decorate for Halloween, and school parties! Great month ahead!

Fall is in the air with home repair

Oh boy, Fall/Halloween must be close. It's the time my husband and I finally get our butts in gear around the house. Preparing for Winter, we have really long Winter's here in Utah, and I don't like to waste our precious Summer time on repairs, oh and it is usually to hot.

So the colors of paint I choose for our home repairs...

So...last week I decided to "spray paint" our metal hand rail. The paint was chipping off and I really wasn't a fan of the color. So, black comes to my mind, always does..

So then I look at the door I attempted to paint black last year, and husband kept telling me it wasn't black, it was dark blue...

I sprayed a bit, oh LOVELY...

Several can's of spray paint and I sprayed the whole door!

it was free and I thought it could go one more season for my door.

Now, the back wood deck is in bad shape...

and that pumpkin color swatch I held up the house looked really awesome..

To me it is better than nothing and you can see in the back ground how bad we let it get.

Facebook and Etsy playing for the same team #paininthearse

Alright, I need to rant, probably just like the other 1,000,000's out there doing the same.

p.s. it's heard...

Let's start with Facebook. Yes, it is a life changing, very beneficial service to those of us who have a business online and also to keep in contact with friends and family.
However...
There is a battle with Facebook & Google+, and us social addicts are caught in the cross hairs.
Meaning, we have become enslaved to the "free" service but at what price?
Facebook has rolled out a major change on it's site, and it is not something I am comfortable using, because it is not user friendly, Mark Z is a brilliant person, BUT, not all people are playing on "his level", meaning I think the site is moving to fast for the "average/common" user to keep playing around on.

But, time will tell, the majority of us will adapt, I just wonder how many "leaks/holes" open out there on my private personal profile..

However in the next few weeks, they will roll out the "new" version of FB, trying to keep up with G+ (mind you, Fb is up against Google, hello, Google!!!) I have seen a few screen shots of the new FB, to me it looks like a ~~BLOG!~~ Did I type that out loud.... I can only imagine how long it will take to roll out for the Fan pages.
That is what I am really concerned about, my Fan page, or whatever they call it now days...

Okay, enough of Fb... Let's talk about ETSY.

WTF??!??!

I opened my email had a link that sent me to a lady who makes her own screen print T-shirts, and all I could really notice was how big her breasts are and her T-shirt is a bit to small., seriously!!!!

Next she starts telling me that there is a lot of competition in selling her shirts, so she will be purchasing AD space on Etsy.
Next my wheels start spinning - how can people compete for this AD SPACE? There will be 100's of 1000's buying space.
And the kicker.... the PRICE.......

Now, I am really bad at math, it makes me crazy, but I am thinking how much I would have to be paying out.

Okay, so for $5, $10 or $25 a WEEK, at 5,000, 10,000 and 25,000 impressions (how is this a guarantee?) promoting 21 items (yes, my inventory is way low on this site, I am letting ) and using 30 KEYWORDS...

4 weeks in a month x $5 option at $20 a month, plus my listing and closing fees (I am low balling it here).
And what then what? Am I going to sell EVERYTHING I listed? Odds are no, maybe 2 or 3 items is my guess, sorry I am such a pessimist at this point with Etsy. And all I can think is, well if I am going to be paying fees, I am going to dump into Ebay.

WHY? Because my brain doesn't start to turn and twist and kink up. I can list my item, and put it on Ebay, and usually sell the item within 60 days or less. Instead of trying to constantly deal with this insane dickery of learning the latest with Etsy.

Maybe I have just become way to Fugal, and just don't want to part with my money on a site, that has been very slow for me to sell on, and has taken way to many twists and kinks for me to try to grasp. I don't have this kind of time to take the chance anymore.

Alright, that is my rant, had to get it out there.

By the way G+ is pretty cool, and Ebay, there are a lot of ways to dodge excess fees. And such is life, as an Adversity Queen ;O)

phase 3 of the cleaning of the bottles!

This task is daunting! Last time I put up a blog post was Sept.1 I think, and that was the second round of cleaning and soaking the BOTTLE'S. What I mean by cleaning is, rinsing, soaking in vinegar & water, a really bad attempt and near breaking of the dish washer ( there was grainy dirt for a week after). So I returned them back to outside in bins to soak.

Soak as in, loosen the dirt from inside and out.

Today I bought CLR... And set up a cleaning station outside...AGAIN!.

That is the CLR bin, after several soaking's to see if I could loosen the grime. I had eye gear, gloves and tongs as my protection, I am terrified of this product, I have seen what is can do to a toilet :O)

After all the soaking, rinsing, cleaning I decided to give up part of the battle and to donate a bunch of bottles to my sons art class (they have been asking for donations for class, what better than a whole bunch of bottles, lol)!.

As I was separating what I thought was of value and what was possibly not, I started to notice there was a difference in the tops.

the top to this one look's it could possibly be an older bottle. My reasoning is: maybe a cork or it could just be one of the old aluminum one twist lids.

This one looks more modern to me, twist on off cap. I don't know, this is just my opinion. This whole thing has been a huge undertaking and learning experience, one that is slow going...

these I never soaked in CLR, I gave up, and they will be donated.

I did pull these ones out from the donation box, after I realized the tops are different.

I have yet to tackle these bunch with CLR

These had been soaked in CLR, not really much difference :(

Next step is to get a bottle brush and who knows what else to make these a little bit prettier.

I did find some neat DURAGLAS bottles, and hope to list them soon.

cleaning bottles

So, I find myself in one of my "oh those are so awesome and I need them", situations

All those bottles I picked,, well they all need to be soaked to get the mud and spider webs and what - not out.

First day I soaked them all in a kiddie pool (don't tell the kids, they will freak, pool has since been bleached and washed out.

Then next day I soaked in wheel barrow and bin, why? because I had to try and get the mud out of them, then soak more.

Now, I have a load in the dishwasher. Praying they dont break or that I don't break the dishwasher.

What's my plan you ask? Well, hopefully I can get them cleaned up enough to sell the majority in bulk. Others I hope are worth some money individually. Let's hope someone out there wants to "upcycle" and purchase them :O)

The insulators have been cleaned, I believe the one in the middle must of been hit by lightening or caught fire due to it's smokey color.

I went to an estate sale a few months back. I bought a photo album that had handmade paper doll costumes, dresses , evening wear and more. I am not sure who the model is, I am thinking from a paper doll collection or possibly out of a comic strip?

Not sure, but whoever made these amazing out fits truly was talented and patient. There are over 120 pieces made for this paper doll, and she only stands a little over 5" tall and barely 1" wide if that. Pure talent.. I listed the outfits and dolls that were not in the album, these were separate in an envelope marked "Carol's Costumes". Carol, or the maker of Carol's costumes, I salute you, you had an amazing talent :O)

You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped, without asking, all for free, every time? And you didn't pay for air? And, you got trading stamps to boot?

Laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box?

It was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents?

Theythreatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed... and they did it!

When a 57 Chevy was everyone's dream car... to cruise, peel out, lay rubber or watch submarine races, and people went steady?

No one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never
locked?

Lying on your back in the grass with your friends
and saying things like, 'That cloud looks like a... '?

Playing baseball with no adults to help kids with the rules of the game?

Stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger?

And with all our progress, don't you just wish, just once, you could slip back in time and savor the slower pace, and share it with the children of today.

When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited the student at home?

Basically we were in fear for our lives, but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! But we survived because their love was greater than the threat.

Etsy new search, just my opinion

My opinion on the search changes on Etsy.

Etsy, I came to your site last year (after being on ebay for 7 years), and put a lot of work into my store and had a lot listed. And when I say a lot of work, I mean:

Reading the forums (big time sucker, once in awhile there is some good info, other than that the forums are full of OPINIONS, just like belly buttons, every PERSON has one, and of course everyone is dead serious and acts like this is the end of the world with every new change).
Picture taking. I did learn that good pictures are a must for selling and that light is really important. This was a plus to come to your site and learn and practice taking photos. What did I learn, I don't think you need to take pics outside (unless necessary & barn wood is not required to be in photo) Mind you, I did try these. Bright, indirect light works for me, but not everyone. still learning.
Social networking, I spent hours pushing my just listed Etsy listings on twitter, facebook, tumblr, way to much work for a site, seriously. I now list and post on my facebook fan page, which is linked to my twitter, and try to keep up on blog. It didn't do me any good.
Tagging, trying to think of every possible description to describe my item, when a title and the listing information should clearly be enough to be picked up in searching
Creating treasuries, this too is something I learned, and boy is that a talent. some can do them and some can not. Again, the chances of yours being made to the front page are like 1 in 300,000 ish... maybe I am over exaggerating.
Finding out there are sites like craftopolis, and craftcult and etsyonsale that help you find your treasuries for yourself or for your team, or provide you with a widget, or change your titles in bulk.
Lets not forget to mention learning about google analytics, wow, really?
Syndication... well, I guess the ones who got in on 2008 where able to have their shops added to this beta testing. That added their items to google shopping? But others have to sit and wait...hmmm.
Best part! Fellow sellers, I have meet and found some of coolest friends who sell on etsy, meet them mostly on twitter, then discovered Etsy, reason why I went to that site. I found people like ME! People who loved to find and sell vintage. #Socializing with like minds is great.

However, I returned to Ebay this Spring, I am seller with over 4K sales on that site.
Etsy, I just broke 200 barely after a year and half, can you say starving to have a sale and move inventory? and that .20 cents clearly states you get what you pay for. I have come to the understanding/learned it is better to pay fees and to move inventory when you have a proper search on your site.

I became seriously discouraged with trying to sell on Etsy (if can't tell by this post yet), now I clearly understand & know, not everyone thinks old, used, vintage stuff is cool, and I don't expect to sell everything I have listed, but I must of been doing something right over on Ebay.

I have been slowly letting all my listings expire and placing over on ebay and SELLING them, after they sat on Etsy for 4 months or more, then move to Ebay and they sell within a month or less generally.

I found it incredibly difficult to make a sale on Etsy site, in large part due to search. I am social, I do promote with fb, twitter, blog and I am a team captain on Etsy. There is so much to keep up on and follow on Etsy that it is almost maddening, with all the changes and tricks. Too much time spent on this site, trying to figure out how to get my items sold. it shouldn't be ROCKET SCIENCE. Too much time and energy being spent, when the world is still revolving outside of Etsy world.

With the search change you have just made, I am considering re-stocking my inventory, but not just yet.

I have been reading in the forums and I think the biggest secret to being a big seller was let out of the bag when you rolled out the search change. The secret formula to selling on your site was -re-newing, sellers actually re-newing all day long, so they could be found in the searches, so those sellers could dominate the site. I don't think the re-new listings is a way to dominate a site, not fair to sellers. These re-newers views have dropped dramatically, as they should. an item listed on a site to sell, should be found by search being the most relevant to what they are looking for. I find, for now, this is fair to all Etsy sellers, and when I type in my key words, I am finding what items I do have listed, are for the most part showing on the front page of that particular search. Now, if they will sell, that's another story...

Being a veteran online seller, I feel this is a positive step for your site, and a good way for buyers to find what they are looking for. However, time will tell. And anyways, it is just my opinion, like a belly button, everyone has one ;O)

They learn to catch dragon flies that are flying around looking for mosquito's.

Also a great place to learn patience...

Hunting lizards, catching and releasing of course, and opstical course learning to balance over these crazy rocks. At least the water is way low and slow.

I love the site Pinterest http://pinterest.com, or to see my boards (http://pinterest.com/selloholicmom/). It's like flipping through a magazine you love, seeing whatever you are "searching for" or just randomly coming across something so neat or beautiful. Eye Candy at it's finest!

You need an invite to be on this site, you can email me and I can send an invite or you can just request an invite from the site.

Kids: fair...few grumbles.

I think with the times changing so quickly and instant gratification being introduced to these generations, I think you need to be sure to get back to Nature. It is good for the soul and the senses. See things that are incredible and take in the smells and of course exercise a bit.

Note to self to pack extra socks, buy different shoes for the kids.

Spotify in USA, music. Ear Candy

A few weeks ago I was reading on Mashable about a music site coming to USA, I sent an email to get an invite but never heard back.
So today Richard ( http://www.linkedin.com/in/richardouyang )posted on his facebook he had got on with Spotify with Klout, now you see I have no clue what the site Klout is about, thanks, another site, lol!

So I followed his post, went into http://klout.com and signed up, see me here http://klout.com/#/Selloholicmom ha, still no clue, but then it took me to spotify after klout, I signed in with my Twitter so maybe that helped me get in to spotify?
Anyhow, from Klout I got into SPOTIFY, (currently playing Buffalo Solider by Bob Marley as I type this).

So I downloaded Spotify to my desktop (can also link to you mobile), oh there looks a plethora of ear candy on this site. So far I haven't seen such a music collection like this. Now, the download to the desktop is where you will find all the music, this is where you will be playing your tunes. The website itself you won't be able to do, at least from what I have been tinkering with today...

I do know to share your music with facebook, twitter you go into the songs you want to hear/play, right click and it will show you options, one is to share....

using godaddy domains to forward to a site you are on

To me it is completely maddening to remember where to go into goddady and figure out where to alter domain manager, not fun, hence my project this morning and felt I needed to share, in case someone else was wracking their brain.... And the reason why I need to change.

I have several domains on godaddy and they were all linked to be forwarded to my Etsy store, but since that site is a struggle to sell on, I have been on there technically since 2008, but didn't start to sell anything till January 2010 till currently. I have sold a little over 200 items in a year and half vs. ebay where I have sold thousands of items in a few years.

Should of started to list on Etsy back then 2008, I would of had a better chance to have my store SYNDICATED, in other words people could type Selloholicmom under google shopping and my store would of shown up there instead of alcoholicmom, grrrrr.

Wish I would of thought of sooner, one of those learning experiences in life, and there are almost too many, so hopefully if someone would like to search for selloholicmom.com because one of these days I would like to be that popular (hey a girl can dream right).

Big cottonwood looking for donut

Our adventure in hiking last night...

We went looking for Donut falls. It is up Big Cottonwood canyon, they say about 9 miles up, but I think more like 10 and it is on your right, up past the beaver ponds, and there is a public bathroom there, take the road on your right. We really didn't know where donut falls is, and husband was using his mobile phone for a GPS, I really don't feel comfortable about that, I think you could lead in wrong direction...

We continued up the road, passed a camp ground, and then found the parking lot.

As we got out, this little guy literally posed for us.

Started on the trail, beautiful country, but as we kept going this wasn't what I would call an "easy" trail for little ones and elderly like I had read in a blog post.

You do have a few "trail" signs.

But after you go across a small bridge over the creek, which is still running very full I might add, there is one more trail sign. Then you are on your own. We followed the GPS and headed to the left.

The terrain changes a lot. There are a lot of loose rocks, about medium size and the incline becomes steep, we could do it, the kids had to take a few breaks. Be sure to always carry anti-bacteria wipes and band-aids with you

We kept hiking...

this part was not bad, it was higher up.

And I really couldn't LOOK around and enjoy because my eyes were "glued" the the ground so I didn't trip or stumble on rocks.

We came to a fork at the top and it said NO TRESPASSING, we could hear the water and thought we were close to the falls. We took the left part of the fork, and it came to an end here.

we did not find the falls..maybe it was the fork to the right??

The hike down another hiker asked if we just came from the mines? No, we couldn't even find the falls this time let alone a mine :/

As we drove down the canyon almost to the amphitheater, a bunch of cars were stopped. Then one by one cars drove forward. The bend before the amphitheater (as you are heading up) we saw police vehicles, and people turning around. We spoke with an officer, he said there was a bad wreck and the canyon would be shut down for about 3 hours, it was already past 8 at this time. He said if we had enough gas to turn around and head out Guardsman Pass, OMG are you kidding me?

Accident was caused by a drunk driver (http://t.co/g4nZq1t) to me there is no excuse for drinking and driving, makes me sick to think about the innocent people who were hurt, and my heart goes out to them.

It was dusk, the deer were close to the roads, and people were pissed having to turn around and head back up this mountain and having a major drive to get out and home. It blows me away by how fast these people drive on this canyon, and pass me. Google Big Cottonwood accidents to see how many have "flown" off the road.

Never have taken Guardsman Pass this way, and dare I say it takes you to the top of the mountain and the road is narrow, paved but basically

the width of a one lane and drops straight down, kids scared to say the least, me thinking wow, I could really use a cigarette-even though I no longer smoke, it was one of those white knuckle moments.

And I probably wouldn't of been so nervous driving this had it been DAY light and I wasn't upset from seeing that crash, and tired from a hike, and there was a lot of traffic going this way, and I wondered how MANY people knew what they were doing/going. I know this pass well if coming from Park city then into Midway, but not this direction. We came to a part where people were stopping, the moon was full, hence the reason why I feel everything was out of wack tonight

At this point the road turns to dirt, snow still on the side of road, muddy spots that I just vision in my crazy mind as slick and if I have to stop I will slide off :P.

Finally saw the Tee-pee in the valley and a sign for Park City.

As we wind down we see paved road and the new Hotel they have built up there, so gorgeous and tucked into the mountain. I remember when Stein Erickson was "tucked away". I believe it is the Waldorf, and it is breathtaking.

Finally the kids are okay and not upset anymore, they recognize PC.

But wait as we venture down to the freeway, low and behold the canyon is under construction. You know when you see a cartoon of someone frazzled

that was me....Why, because I was the one driving, because I have too, control/car sick issue.

I prayed the whole way home to make it safe, and thanked God when we did...

And mom took a Xanax...

Maybe it is because I am getting older, or just maybe the fact I have precious cargo in the car - my children, but I really think Drunk Drivers SUCK ASS and I should know better than to venture out on a full moon..

Millcreek Canyon Utah

One of my most favorite things to do in Utah is to go up to the top of Millcreek canyon. It is also one of the canyons we can take our dogs into and let off leash,not our deaf/blind aussie, but a foster Beagle that has turned into a seeing hearing dog for our lethal Aussie...

It is beautiful, and when the city is scorching this canyon is amazing to go up into and cool down. I haven't been able to really venture up there due to we have had water in the creeks running really high and fast, and we had so much snow this year, it is still melting in the higher areas. But finally... our hiking season has begun. We are not die hards by any means. We take it easy, and I think much better exercise for the body and brain than a smelly old gym....

It is in a way I guess my sanctuary, my place that I can go to, take those deep breathes and take in that smell of Earth, if you have ever been to this type of place in the mountains, you know that smell, it is amazing...
A place that makes me feel grounded, thankful for our great gift from Mother Nature.

Hmm, now I am sounded a little too hippy :P

Google+ settings

I am brand new to the Google+ so this morning I started to check out the "settings" because the emails are coming in SENSORY OVERLOAD pops in my head...

So, if you are on Google+
Sign in
upper right corner you will see your email with arrow pointing down, hoover to open.
Go down to account settings, click, this will take you to new page so you can edit:

Account overview:
Profile and privacy
Google+
Language
Data Liberation
connected accounts

Click each one to make YOUR DECISIONS :O)

Cleaning up settings on facebook

This morning I have been clearing out clutter in the mass "like settings.

I have so much coming at me on fb that I am missing a lot of my friends post, it's another form of "commercials" advertising.

*On facebook, your personal page:

click profile, click INFO (left side of wall), you can EDIT each section, just be sure to click save if it has that at the bottom. Activities and Interests- this is the one that will show every LIKE you have clicked. Click edit, then SHOW OTHER PAGES, this will open up to all the likes, you can choose what to REMOVE. I removed several and added them to my fan page.

I have had a social media love affair with it for 1 1/2 years, but lately I am pissed with all the follows being half naked chicks spamming me, not cool.

Not sure how to block them. HOWEVER, if you want to see who stopped following you, or if you want to FOLLOW , the site I use is http://tweepi.com/

I login via oauth, then at the top you can see MANAGE MY TWITTER, click that and there is a drop down to choose from, follow the LETS BEGIN and then on left hand side there will be a small box to click on, you have to click one at a time. It will show on the right hand side of the page if your following, or if mutual, you can decide FLUSH, FOLLOW OR RECIPROCATE all at the top under MANAGE TWITTER. For now, this site is free for those areas.

Mod podge experiment with old photo

Oh Mod Podge, it has been a few years since our last "experiment", dare I say 5 years.
Anyhow, I picked you back up today.

That photo that I picked up for free last Summer and that has been suffering in the garage & I have been hoping the cat didn't scratch up or pee on. Well.... It made it to my table and is now I am awaiting to see what I have done. Either saved this awesome old print made out of a fabric and type of paper or completely destroyed...

I am waiting...anxiously to see how it turns out...

Well, the photo survived! The wood warped a bit, it was a 2 piece frame anyways, but the middle section went higher.

Either way, I am happy it turned out, and that this photo can be around hopefully as long as it already.

Google + Selloholicmom's thoughts

There it was on facebook, a vintage friend offering invites to "google +". I had seen a few of my "techi" friends tweeting or announcing on facebook about the invites, but I hesitated jumping on board..yet..

I took the leap this weekend. Circles, not the circles like on Etsy that you accumulate #'s of other Etsy's peeps that you think are "cool, neat or wow".

Circles, as in *friends, classmates, twitter friends, ebay friends, etsy friends, or whatever you possibly fancy to "call" these circles. You could even call a circle "circle jerks" lol, it's your call...

This google + is still in Beta testing, translation = brand new, working out kinks, be patient, try not to complain to much and roll with it, you are contributing info to help the site build.

Since this is "google" we are talking about here, tread lightly about what you are posting and what pics you are sharing, etc. Why? Because if you don't know how to make private any info, then I am "assuming" it is all feed's into google.

One thing I am really interested in is the SPARKS part of the google +. Type in what you fancy and it pulls up recent posts on your key word. Hence I get to share info, all in one spot to the "circles" I choose to pass that info on to. Not so sure if "everyone" really wants to read that info, but hey I like to *SHARE* what I read..

I have seen people trying to sell google + invites on ebay and on the android app people posting their email address for the world to see and asking for invites. That is a trip. I think at this point, if you are on fb or twitter you should be able to find someone to give an invite out to you, FREE of charge ;O) -----> if you need an invite, let me know.

Sitting patiently waiting for the google + to introduce a way for me to put Selloholicmom on there as a business, who knows maybe there is already a way and I just to keep trying to crack this mysterious Google +.

As for now, I have about 10 people added to my circles, lol, not many and I don't really care the number, because these are my friends that I roll the tides with and we share info with each other on facebook, and I guess taking a new direction in the whole *Social Media*
